A How to Reach Gulmarg?
Reaching Gulmarg is an adventure in itself! Here’s the best way to get there:
By Road (Most Recommended)
Surprisingly, despite being such a famous tourist destination, there’s no direct bus from Srinagar to Gulmarg! But don’t worry, you have these options:
- From Srinagar (50 km) – The most common way is to hire a private taxi or take a shared cab from Lal Chowk Taxi Stand or Dal Gate.
- The drive takes around 2 hours and passes through Tangmarg, a small town where travelers usually stop for snow gear rentals in winter.
- From Tangmarg, you can either continue by cab or take a shared SUV (₹50–₹100 per person) to reach Gulmarg.
- In winter, the roads are covered with thick snow, so only 4×4 vehicles with snow chains are allowed beyond Tangmarg.

By Air
- The nearest airport is Srinagar International Airport (SXR), about 60 km from Gulmarg.
- From the airport, you can take a prepaid taxi (₹2500-₹3000) directly to Gulmarg.
By Train
- The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi (290 km away).
- From Jammu, take a bus or taxi to Srinagar and then continue your journey to Gulmarg by road.
Tip: If you’re traveling in winter, always check the weather forecast before starting your journey, If it’s snowing, leave early morning because heavy snowfall can block roads later in the day!
